We take telescopes TO the public - on street corners, public parks, in front of bookstores -wherever there are crowds of people. We also work with other amateur astronomy organizations and take part in many international projects. Please browse our site and feel free to contact us to learn about events in your area.

LOS ANGELES MEMORIAL SERVICE FOR JOHN DOBSON

There will be a memorial service for John at the Vedanta Society in Hollywood on Feb. 23rd at 3:30pm for those who wish to pay respects.

The Vedanta Society is located at 1946 Vedanta Place, Hollywood Ca. 90068. Parking is limited and we suggest using the parking lot at Hollywood and Argyll, it is about 1/2 mile from the Vedanta Society. Just walk north up Argyll past Franklin to Vine and go left up the hill to the back of Vedanta. We will have a sign posted and the service will be in the Shrine. The hill is substantial so please leave the parking at Vedanta for our older or handicapped guests.

We will be serving light refreshments after the service and since we expect a large crowd, we are asking for help, both volunteers and donations (just refreshments). If you are interested in helping, please contact Donna Smith

.

.

It is with heavy hearts that we must report the passing of John Dobson. He died peacefully this morning, Wednesday, January 15th, in Burbank, California. He was 98 years old. He leaves behind a son, numerous close friends, and fans and admirers worldwide.

On March 8th, in honor of John, this year's ISAN (International Sidewalk Astronomy Night) will be dedicated to his memory. Amateur astronomers around the globe can join in and celebrate John's life and continue to carry the torch that he lit back in 1968 when he co-founded the San Francisco Sidewalk Astronomers.
